BLACK GINSENG

(Korean Ginseng)

(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer)

Korean ginseng (Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer) is a perennial plant belonging to the genus Panax, distributed in Korea and China, and is mainly referred to as Korean ginseng.

The etymology is a Greek word that means 'a panacea that cures everything' (Pan + Axos).

In 1843, German botanist Carl Anton von Meyer registered Korean ginseng as "Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer" at the World Botanical Society, and it became the official name of Korean ginseng.

Classification of ginseng

Ginseng mainly uses the root part.

Ginseng harvested directly from the field is called fresh ginseng.

There are two ways to consume ginseng: directly ingesting fresh ginseng, or boiling it in water with other herbal medicines for a long time.

If fresh ginseng is dried and made into white ginseng, it can be stored for a long time and can be consumed in the same way as fresh ginseng.
In the case of red ginseng, fresh ginseng is steamed at a high temperature (over 85℃) for a long time and then dried. Red ginseng is consumed in the same way as fresh ginseng or made into powder.
In general, red ginseng is more effective than white ginseng.
Black ginseng is made by steaming and drying fresh ginseng at a high temperature 9 times.
In the process of repeating the process of steaming ginseng, a new saponin component (ginsenoside) of ginseng is created. It is known that the saponins of black ginseng are much better in absorption and effect than red ginseng.
